Navigation systems for Navy

slider-navigation.navy.jpg
Navigation systems have always been of paramount importance for surface vessels and submarines. The evolution of conflicts, such as asymmetric warfare, requires more advanced systems for both weapon guidance and jamming immunity.
Since its creation, DIGINEXT has built a strong expertise and is able to provide complete navigation systems for naval forces with products ranging from navigation sensors (Military GPS Receiver and LORAN C) to navigation data processing, distribution and display (NDDS, CCU and NAV Repeater).

Being a key partner for the French Navy’s new platform development programs (European Multi-Mission Frigate FREMM, Nuclear-Powered Attack Submarine BARRACUDA), member of the French MoD SSBN working group and part of international projects (Conventionally-Powered Attack Submarine SCORPENE for Brazil), DIGINEXT is a key provider of navigation systems for:

  • Both Surface and Submarine vessels
  • New program or ship update
  • From small vessels up to Aircraft carrier

DIGINEXT is present on the whole critical chain from equipment supplier to navigation system partner. Depending on the customer project and requirements, DIGINEXT can act as:

  • COTS Navigation equipments supplier
  • Turnkey Navigation systems provider
  • Partner from early Navigation System definition to final sea acceptance tests

Complete set of navigation systems for worldwide naval forces:

MilGPS Receiver

The MILGPS receiver is the only non-US military GPS P(Y)-capable receiver for ship applications providing high-performance positioning with latest SAASM technology (via THALES GNSS 1000S board). Based on both modular and scalable design, MILGPS features various interfaces to fit any type of platform ranging from surface ships to submarines.

MILGPS provides surface ships and submarines with high protection against jamming and accurate positioning for weapons fire.

Selected by a large panel of Navy (Belgian, French, Portuguese , Royal Netherlands…), the MILGPS product is the solution to fulfil the requirements for retrofit of legacy radio-navigation equipments within the fleets worldwide or for building a ship platform with highly performance navigation system.

Loran C

Following to a continuous innovation process, DIGINEXT has developed a disruptive, fully digital LORAN-C Receiver, implementing the most advanced dynamic and non-linear signal processing techniques.

Designed for Nuclear-Powered Ballistic Missile Submarine applications where the requirements for range and integrity are critical, DIGINEXT’s LORAN-C Receiver is a superior navigation solution offering much higher accuracy, availability and robustness than traditional technologies, higher jamming protection than military GPS P(Y).

NDDS: Navigation Data Processing and Distribution

Enter the next generation of navigation system for ship applications, with the NDDS (Navigation Data Distribution System). Controlled by intelligent software capability, the NDDS is acting as a gateway to interface to all on-board navigation sensors, to merge and correlate incoming data and to distribute own ship reference navigation information to client systems (CMS especially) as per required content and protocol. Built upon both a redundant architecture and real-time capable core system, the NDDS is able to guarantee the availability, integrity and validity of navigation information distributed.

DIGINEXT’s NDDS solution has been selected by DCNS as part of through-life support operations for FLOREAL Class Surveillance Frigates, RUBIS Class Nuclear-Powered Attack Submarine, Charles de Gaulle Aircraft carrier as well as new national and international programs such as FREMM, BARRACUDA and SCORPENE for Brazil. Based on HW and SW modular technology, the NDDS can easily be configured with the type and number of communication interfaces to adapt any ship’s navigation platform. DIGINEXT’s NDDS comes with a ToolBox providing an external and compact test device to stimulate all hardware interfaces and verify the system elementary functions are in service. Whenever a failure arises, full system diagnostics is supplied to the user within only few minutes to simplify maintenance procedures and to reduce repair lead-times significantly.

NAV Repeater

The NAV Repeater provides the on-board users with the ability to display on different locations all relevant navigation and environmental information. Flexible interfacing allows the system to be inserted on the ship’s navigation network using either standard (e.g. NMEA 183) or customized data links.

The NAV repeater is also fully configurable in such a way the user can filter the data to be displayed and chose the associated graphical representation.

In terms of hardware, a large range of connectors, screen sizes and mounting kits are available to satisfy the operator requirements. Proposed hardware is qualified for operation in severe military environments.
